Donna & Gabriel’s Wedding

19 09 2010

Well, all I can say about this one, and the word of the day was: “RAIN”!

It literally poured rain all day from the time I arrived at Abernethy Center, to the time I walked back in the door at home. Now I didn’t let it get me down. I knew it would be a challenge to basically take every photo under the main tent there, but I made it work.

First thing I did when I arrived at 3pm was to set up the 4-lights and get them dialed in. Everyone in the wedding party arrived at 4pm and we never looked back! I still cannot believe how smooth the day went, even with the steady flow of water from the heavens!

After the pre ceremony photos, the ceremony started just after 630pm. Of course, due to the down pour, the ceremony was moved under the tent. Cocktail hour followed the ceremony and we wrapped the family formals just in time for the plated dinner (and it was goooood, I might add).

For the reception, DJ Erich from Rose City DJ’s took over and worked his magic. The crowd was very involved in all reception events and they didn’t hesitate to fill the floor dancing!

We ended the night with a true Oregon, rainy send-off. The newlyweds exited in the “100 Stretch Excalibur” from Chariot Limousine.

Congrats guys, thanks for a fun day! Here’s a few images from the day:

Silcox Hut Wedding

9 01 2010

As a photographer nothing is better than shooting in a different location, especially for a wedding. When I met with Sarah & Ryan they told me about their winter wedding plan to get married on Mt. Hood above Timberline Lodge at the Silcox Hut.

Now, if you haven’t heard of the Silcox Hut, it was built in 1939 by Ferdinand Silcox and it’s primary function was to be used as a warming hut for the Magic Mile chairlift, the 2nd chairlift in the United States. The Hut is located over 1 mile up the mountain at 6950 feet, 1000 feet above Timberline Lodge. (For more info visit Wikipedia).

A few weeks before the wedding I met Sarah & Ryan at Timberline for a quick ride in the snowcat up to the Hut. We went over details and I scouted the place for my first time. I knew before even getting up there that it would be impossible to take a bad photograph at their wedding!

So, over the next few weeks after the meeting, I came up with a few ideas and knew what I needed for lighting and camera gear. I packed as light as possible so I could carry everything in one trip on the snowcat. The ceremony was scheduled for after sunset and at that time the inside of the hut would be very dark so a light kit was a must! Also, with every wedding I plan to take at least one well-thought-out, amazing photo….all I had to do was wait and see what the weather threw at us!

Once we arrived at the hut on the wedding day the weather was great but blizzard-like conditions and 8-12 inches of snow were in the forecast! We quickly took a few outdoor photos, then headed inside to set up for the rest of the afternoon/evening. Everything went as planned, the ceremony was awesome, and the winter weather rolled in!

Now for the last photo of the day, the “blizzard photo”! Since the bride would be in her wedding dress (plus a pair of boots) I needed to work fast! The snow was blowing sideways and the temperture was in the 20’s! I set the camera on a tripod and planned for a 4-5 second exposure. While the shutter was open I used 2 canon 580ex2 flashes to add a small pop to the outside of the hut, and to the “dipping” bride & groom. Well, without further explanation, here is the final image, a short  behind-the-scenes video, and a few more images from the wedding day. Enjoy!

Lindy & Dean’s Wedding!

12 10 2009

I truely have a blast at every wedding I shoot, and Lindy and Dean’s wedding was no exception!

I met Lindy back on July 3rd at Abernethy when I photographed her brother Craig’s wedding (she was a bridesmaid for Chelsey, Craig’s new wife). That wedding was so fun, relaxed, and just an overall good day….hot weather too as I recall, lol!

So, in the week following Chelsey & Craig’s big day, Linday called and booked me to shoot for her & Dean….of course I said “I’d love to!!”.

The wedding took place at the Green Villa Barn in Independence, Oregon. It was perfect weather..not too hot, not too cold. I got there about an hour early to set up the lighting for the reception and do the usual detail shots….dress, jewelry, cowboy boots, lol! The timing went very smooth and I gotta give HUGE props to their officiant, Mondo, for this was his first ceremony and he hit a home run…ceremony was perfect! I also have to give more HUGE props to Tommy for all her awesome help coordinating and helping keep everything on track.

Here’s a few favs from the day, enjoy!:
